Opened early summer 2023 the century-old heritage building is located in the Ottawa River at 501 Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway.
The new facility has free public access to a supervised swimming area, 2 lanes for serious swimmers and docking for your canoe or kayak.
Sitting on the balcony enjoying a cold beverage with lunch is a nice way to spend time on a summer day and is my new favourite summer place. It was a perfect day for swimming, sunny blue skies temperature 36C felt like 42 with humidity.
Within the metro area of the City of Ottawa, there are 3 wonderful sandy beaches on the Ottawa River and 1 on the Rideau River. But nothing beats the freshness of swimming in a river with cool flowing water on a hot summer day. Many people reading this would probably find the water too cold for swimming. Growing up here, we'd start swimming in the rivers and lakes on the May two-four long weekend, the unofficial start of summer in Canada.
