The Dreisam, the river that flows through Freiburg, has not yet run dry in this place (as it has further up the river). But it has heated up to 30 °C in the past, hot and rainless weeks. Cold-water fish have a hard time surviving under these conditions.

From the tunnel on the other side flows a small but steady trickle with a temperature of 14 °C. According to the newspaper, it is not known where it comes from, but it must be groundwater.

To provide a retreat for the fish, a pool has been dug into the riverbed. This should avert the collapse of the fish stock at the last moment. It is fenced off to prevent people from using it as a bathtub.

While the air temperature is already 30 °C again, there are rain clouds in the sky. In the end, a little hope, at least for the fish.
