Many ruined barns like this one can be seen in upstate New York.

Given the amount of manual work that went into shaping and joining their timbers by hand, it seems such a waste that people neglect them to the point where they collapse and rot.

Wildlife, however, sometimes find comfort amongst the ruins and build dens and nests within. This one served as a home to a red fox a year or two ago and we would occasionally catch a glimpse of her as took refuge somewhere down inside the pile of wood and debris.
