Most electric energy is not used where it is produced, so it has to travel from one place to another. Here are some electrical power lines, supported by a large pylon (aka transmission tower). Nobody likes them in their backyard, but these lines are way too close to the apartment buildings: on quiet days, and all nights, you can actually hear the constant hum they produce, from inside the houses!
