Beach grass [genus Ammophila (Poaceae)] belongs to the family of "Poaceae". In German this family is called "Sweet Gras."

This member is very important for coastal protection since it grows in the very harsh conditions at the seaside where you have salty ground and very extreme climates. It protects the dunes and it´s prohibited to enter these areas.

In my childhood we could play in these grounds. We played in the dunes and had a lot of fun—now these grounds are off limits.
