I take skyscapes from an old water tower platform atop the Kendrick Mill building, 100 feet above Pastorius Street in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. The skycam shown here is ScanCam Mark 23, made from the electronics of a Umax 3400 desktop scanner and parts of its deceased ancestors, ScanCams Mark 2 and Mark 3. With its 16mm fisheye lens elevated 42 degrees, it captures a 35 megapixel image of the dome of the sky in a leisurely two minute revolution.

Capture: Canon EOS 30D, Sigma 8mm/3.5 fisheye, Manfrotto 55V tripod, Nodal Ninja 3 head. 3 views up 30 deg, 3 down 20 deg, 1 straight down under elevated tripod.

Process: align, color correct and stitch to 3 layers with PTGui Pro 7.8, edit layer masks in Photoshop PS2, combine with Enblend 3, retouch in Photoshop, convert to .mov with Pano2QTVR.
