Mission San Francisco Solano, established on July 4th, 1823, marked the pinnacle of the Franciscan missions in California as it was the last, and most northern of the missions to be built.  It it estimated that  100,000 or nearly a third of the aboriginal population of California died as a direct consequence of the missions of California. In 1999 a plaque commemorating the Native Americans who died at  Mission San Francisco Solano can be found on the west side of the building.
