Eel Pie Island lies on the River Thames at Twickenham in the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames. A bridge to the island was first constructed in 1957. The current footbridge was opened in 1998.

The island has approximately 50 houses in a wide variety of building styles and is home to a diverse range of artists working in Ceramics, Costume Design, Fine Art, Jewellery, Mosaics, Painting, Photography, Pottery, Printing and Sculpture.

The island has long been renowned for its historical association with musicians. Many famous names performed at the legendary Eel Pie Hotel including David Bowie, George Melly, Kenny Ball, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Who and The Yardbirds.
