While woodlands look like a thing that just naturally happen for one to be healthy care must be taken. Without this they can become overgrown with trees, shutting out the light to the ground and stopping anything growing there.

The thinning out allows light to reach the woodland floor which in turn allows other things to grow there. This results in a more healthy and diversified woodland. The other benefit is that the felled trees are a worthy commodity and so once cut to a uniform length are stacked ready for collection.

What you see here is a make shift collection yard surrounded by the trees cut ready for collection.

Taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G fisheye lens. Mounted on a Nodal Ninja 5 panoramic head and R-D16 rotator atop a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. 5 bracketed shots (-2 -1 0 +1 +2) taken at 6 positions 60° apart, tilted 15° down and another set of shots taken looking straight up. Raw files then processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.6 before being blended into single views, then stitched together using PTGui Pro 9.1.3 and converted using Pano2VR 3.1.4.
