Mill of Kintail
The grist mill was constructed in 1830 on the Indian River in Upper Canada, the predecessor of the modern-day Canada and the Province of Ontario (1867). The mill and conservation area is located at 2854 Ramsay Concession 8, Almonte, ON K0A 1A0
The mill now contains a museum celebrating two local boys who made the world a better place. Dr. R. Tait McKenzie and Dr. James Naismith
Dr. Robert Tait McKenzie, (1867 - 1938) physician, educator, sculptor
Dr Tate pioneered physical fitness programs in Canada and the United States. During World War One, his methods and inventions for restoring and rehabilitating wounded soldiers laid a foundation for modern physiotherapy practices
Dr. James Naismith, (1861 - 1939)
Dr Naismith was a physician and educator who invented the game of basketball.
Both men were born near the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area 154 hectares of walking trails along the Indian River, through fields and forests.
