Lazy autumn sun illuminates the amphitheatre. Either sun is very low or surrounding trees are too high, but long shadows cross arena.

The amphitheater is located in the Palace Park, not far from the Great Gatchina Palace. It was built in the 1790s by the architect Nikolay Lvov. Diameter of arena is 65 meters, height of earth embankment is 3,5 meters.

Four symmetrical aisles lead into the arena. Facade walls of aisles are covered by local limestone. Only gate hinges remained, gates with gilded monogram of Paul I and spears have never been manufactured.

The amphitheatre was intended for conducting carrousel (a kind of equestrian polonaise), but it remained incomplete.
