Jumieges is situated at the banks of the Seine about 60 kilometers upstream from Le Havre where the river reaches the sea. The tidal range at Le Havre is about 8 meters and the tidal bore of the Seine reaches until here and even further. Not far from Jumieges, at Villequier, Leopoldine Hugo – the daughter of Victor Hugo – and her husband Charles Vacquerie drowned in 1843, after their boat capsized in the tidal bore.
When travelling I like my equipment to be light, so I often do not carry a tripod and a panorama head. This panorama was taken just before the ferry took off to cross the Seine, without even enough time to unwrap the string of the philopod.
