Newfoundout is listed as a ghost town but in fact it never was a town or village. It was just a place on the mountain where some 13 families lived. The place is located off of the Opeongo Road, which was one of the main colonization roads. People here were granted 100 acres of land each and had an obligation to settle down, build a home and make their living. This is rough country and it was hard to succeed. People tried to survive here for almost 100 years but by 1948 the area was completely abandoned. Now just a few ruins on the hillsides remain.
