The view from below Hays Bluff on Black Mountain in Wales looks out over The Golden Valley in England and the Welsh Borders. Scroll left for Wales, to the right for England.

The current international border between England and Wales lies close, within a couple of hundred metres. Historically, Black Mountain was the physical barrier between the two warring countries, and formed a natural part of the Offa's Dyke defences. Today, the most visible border can be seen between the wildness of the National Park and the cultivated fields of managed countryside around Hay-on-Wye.
