Walking on a volcano... this expression encapsulates quite accurately my impression about how living in 2022 felt like most of the time.  My choosing this panorama as entry for this WWP Best Of The Year comes from that feeling.

The Roques de García in the Cañadas of Mount Teide the huge volcano, 3,715 metres -12,188 feet- above sea level and more than 7,500 metres -24,606 feet- above the ocean floor) that stands in the middle of Tenerife, Islas Canarias, are a favourite among the visitors of the National Park, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. There is a trail all around them (Sendero número 3), that I shot last october, and that you can see by clicking here.

The eerie shapes of the Roques are the result of their geological history. In fact, they are masses of lava that solidified inside some volcanic chimneys before being expelled out. As they were made of a harder kind of rock than the volcanic debris they were immersed in, they finally emerged into the open air after the erosion process set to work.
