Opole is a city in southern Poland on the Oder River (Odra). It has a population of 129,553 and is the capital of the Opole Voivodeship and is also the seat of Opole County. It is the historical capital of Upper Silesia. Today, many German Upper Silesians and Poles of German ancestry live in the Opole region and the city itself.

One of the most characteristic landmarks of Opole is the Opole Venice ("Little Venice"). This similarity to the Italian city is created thanks to a number of tenement-houses located by the bank of Młynówka canal (former bed of the Oder river) in the section between the Yellow Bridge and the Cathedral Bridge.

Night illumination of buildings completed in 2008 makes the Opole Venice one of the most charming places in the city after nightfall.
