An oasis of quiet and beauty in the middle of this bustling New South city, historic Elmwood Cemetery is facing some controversy, as Charlotte develops commuter rail. A main line of the Norfolk and Southern Railway passes along the eastern boundary of the cemetery. It's visible in the panorama, just under the downtown skyline. Some graves will be threatened if planned widening of the line is approved.
