1900 Takau (打狗、たかお) station opened with the opening of Tainan-Takau line where there is Kaohsiung Harbor Station today.

In 1908, the Japanese built the coastal railway — "Harbor Line", or translated as "Hamasen" in Japanese. pronunciation.
