Officially named the South 9th Street Curb Market, the open-air street market is known as, and called, the Italian Market, because of the Italian influence of the neighborhood throughout most of the 20th Century. In recent decades there has been an influx of Mexican, Chinese, and Vietnamese immigrants, changing the character and types of stores in the market. Among the Italian stalwarts, there are Asian produce stores and corner Mexican groceries.
