The torii gate was donated by the people of Hiroshima as a sign of friendship and stands between King and Beretania Streets in Moiliili. It is an exact replica of the torii gate fronting Hiroshima's Miyajima Island. Hiroshima is Honolulu's sister city in Japan.

The striking red of the torii gate provides a visual contrast to the colors of its surrounding environment.
