Mount Rigi is in the central part of Switzerland and has been a destination of choice for tourists and hikers for many many years. There are several cable cars which access the Rigi from the surrounding towns and villages. A sprocket train services it from Vitznau and Arth-Goldau. This panorama depicts a route which used to extend from the Rigi Kaltbad station to Rigi Scheidegg. The track has now been discontinued and is a popular hiking trail. Especially on weekends hordes of tourists, locals and mountain bikers enjoy the scenery along the path. The bridge covers the chasm at Unterstetten and allowed the train to traverse this gap. Note the supporting pylons and foundation contains much of the locally found 'Nagelfluh' rock material. It is unique to this part of Switzerland.
