The Light Air and Sport Bath is a bath without water. Most people in Freiburg do not even know about its existence. Only one of those I asked remembered it from schoolyard gossip, but only had a vague idea where it actually was. I only happen to know about it because my sister walked past it some twenty years ago, rang the bell beside the gate out of curiosity, and was let in. There was just a large lawn surrounded by trees. A few elderly people were sitting naked on the grass, having a conversation.
The bath is located at the end of a narrow, steep lane at the outskirts of Freiburg. I have been up there three times during the last week, but on all occasions nobody would answer the bell. The sign on the door has an email-address printed on it, but when I wrote I did not get an answer.
The bath is run by the Society for Naturopathic Treatment Freiburg, founded in 1899. The purpose of the bath, which opened in 1923, is "to improve one's health by way of fresh air, exercises, sun and treatments with cold water". In those days they used to have a box office and opening hours too!
