Looking for a quiet spot just to sit and relax. The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory may just be the place for you. Located on beautiful Belle Isle, The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is another of Detroit's "Gems". Designed by Albert Kahn and built in 1904. The conservatory was rebuilt between 1952 and 1954.The timber beams were replaced with aluminum. The conservatory was dedicated the Mrs Whitcomb. Mrs Whitcomb left her 600 plant orchid collection to Detroit in 1953. The Conservatory is supported though the volunteers work of The Belle Isle Botanical Society . The Conservatory is one of my favorite places to wander though. No matter what time of year it is there is always somthing to see.
