2011 was my year to revisit a lot of abandoned buildings. Among them was Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Illinois. Famous for being the shopping center that the Blues Brothers drove through in 1980's classic movie of the same name.

This photo is in the HVAC room at the JC Penny store (three stories up). Yes, that's asbestos hanging from the ceiling.

The mall is large, crumbling and a mecca for urban explorers. Funds have been available for demolition since 2010, but federal and local regulations have mired this in red tape.
