Gradec ("a small town") is a place on the hill nowadays called the Old or "Upper" Town. In the middle ages, another place named Kaptol started developing on a neighbor hill. The two were separated by a stream and connected by a bridge, named "The Bloody Bridge" due to frequent fights. As the time went by, those two towns merged and that is how Zagreb, as we know it today, was born. The Parliament and the Government of the Republic of Croatia are located in the Upper Town.

Gradec («mali grad») naselje je na brdu koje se danas naziva stari ili «gornji» grad.

Na susjednom brdu u srednjem vijeku se počeo razvijati Kaptol. Dva naselja razdvajao je potok a spajao most, koji je zbog čestih sukoba nazvan «Krvavi most».

Vremenom su se dva gradiće spojili i tako je nastao današnji Zagreb. Na "gornjem gradu" su smješteni parlamant i vlada Republike Hrvatske.
