The documenta exhibition for contemporary art is the most important art exhibition in Germany. Every 5 years it turns the small city of Kassel into something really special. In fact the whole city of Kassel is one big art project in the 100 days of the documenta. There are more regular exhibition buildings though to house the ca. 500 pieces of art work by ca. 100 different artists. The "Fridericianum" the "Neue Galerie" and the "Wilhelmshöhe"-Palace are historical buildings whereas the "Documentahalle" is modern architecture and the "Auepavillion" a temporary exhibition hall on a lane in front of the classical Orangerie building.

In the Auepavillion I was very much impressed by a boat, made from 421 petrol cans, the most common vessel in Benin, western africa. Only if all the passengers in the boat keep on plugging the holes in the petrol cans, the boat wont sink. Romuald Hazoumé calls his piece of art work "Dream". If you zoom a bit out of the panorama, you can better read the Benin saying, that inspired him.

Here in Europe you can read every day about another boat with fugitives from Africa that tried to reach Italy, Spain or Malta. Some are lucky, many not. Is it because of not plugging hard enough in fellowship, that so many boats are lost? What about our Earth boat and us world passengers: Do we?
