The Swiss Garden is hidden away behind the hangars at the famous Shuttleworth vintage aircraft collection at Old Warden. Despite living in the area for the last 40 years and frequently passing the entrance to the garden on my bike, I had never actually paid it a visit. I'm pleased that I at last made the effort and enjoyed a quiet and pleasant morning there. It's an informal landscape garden, started in the 1820's by Lord Ongley. Much use is made of ornamental stonework fabricated by coating old bricks etc. with a special cement called Pulhamite. There's a large variety of trees and shrubs, and many pleasing views appear as you stroll along the paths. There are peacocks to be seen (and heard) and the ponds have large fish in them.
