Caption
Freiburg has an oceanic climate, with enough rainfall throughout the year to sustain moss growing on trees. Those species of moss who grow on trees like it shady and wet, therefore they grow mostly on the north side of trees – given that the trees are located in the northern hemisphere. These old oaks at the Hirzberg have moss growing also on top of the lower branches who reach out horizontally towards the valley.
