Do you know the Rock Gardens or Zen Gardens of Kyoto? These are places of meditation and they are of the highest aesthetical appeal. The gravel in these gardens is being raked very carefully every day to display the typical lines in the gravel. I actually got a miniature version of it on the table in my living-room.

The lines and patterns in this panorama are not man-made. They are redesigned every 12 hours or so by the waters of the Wadden Sea, part of the North Sea. This panorama was taken near the very eastern end of the Island of Spiekeroog, one of the East Frisian Islands. You can see how wide the land stretches out when the tide is out. Here you can forget time by simply looking at the patterns and meditating. But beware of the tide! It is quite a long walk to reach dry ground again, and the tidal currents between the islands are extremely strong.
