I am a PhD student in Energy and Resources at UC Berkeley & get jazzed about the issue of improving energy conditions in Africa and understanding the possibilities and limitations of market policies like privatization and reforms for improving basic social access. Right now I work in African cities, places filled with brilliant and contradictory images of modern life.
I'm interested in development and representations, what we choose to photograph and what we dont, and through that, Im drawn to the potential of VR for visual information design and sharing glimpses of unexpected, yet significant places - especially the provocative within the mundane of everyday life.
I've only recently been introduced to VR photography in a cartography course Im taking with Don Bain and Darin Jensen. My panoramic photo for "marketplace" is only the second VR photograph I've ever taken. I hope to learn more about VR, while I have access to great teachers and resources, to see how I may share ideas from my research to a wider public, visually, in addition to the medium of the dissertation.
