About the Photographer
John's first commercial photography experience nearly took his life in 1989 and photography has since put his life in peril twice more. He takes fewer risks these days, though that was not the problem before...
John Schwarzell graduated from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in early 1999, and tries to carry on the tradition and spirit of that school remembering tips & tricks and admonishments from its faculty members such as Ralph Clevenger and Harry Liles among others.
He has been shooting VR since 1997 and is still learning today. His favorite subjects are unique and awesome scenes tucked away from the cities, hidden in nature to be found through exploration and timing. He enjoys fine beaches and skiing - both water and snow. He would like to understand German a little better and learn a little Spanish and would love to have a couple of months in Europe someday before his knees go out.
Only recently has he begun to show his work and enter photography contests, and is just now emerging after years of portfolio building.
