Showers on the Northern Arizona Desert East of Flagstaff. August thru October is the Monsoon season when winds come from the Southwest and bring moisture from Baja California. The rapid rise in altitude from 800 feet ASL in Southern Arizona to the 7000 foot ASL of the Mogallan Rim in Northern Arizona causes the moisture to precipitate out every afternoon as small showers (and some large thunderstorms) form.
