On the tenth anniversary of 9/11 cities all over the United States honored the victims of the attack in New York City. Here in Surprise Arizona they unveiled a new memorial, located in their city hall, dedicated to the public-safety officers who perished on that day. A 300-pound metal beam from the World Trade Center is encased in glass etched with the names of 403 police, fire and Port Authority workers who died. Surprise Police and Fire departments designed and built the memorial with the help of local volunteers. The project took a total of 500 man hours.
