Cologne (Köln) is situated at a crossroads of railway and waterway.

The Rhine Waterway is one of the most busiest and important waterways in Europe and the railway river crossing between Köln-Deutz and Köln Main Station is the busiest railway bridge in Germany. Daily passing here 1,200 trains, with a capacity of about 600,000 passengers.

Even during the Roman Empire, when Cologne was a Roman colony and frontier town, the river and merchant routes formed an important crossroad.
