The Helsinki-Malmi Airport was built in 1936 and it was the only airport in Helsinki until 1952. In the early fifties the airplanes got too heavy for Helsinki-Malmi Airport and so a new Helsinki Airport was completed in Vantaa, just in time for the Olympic Games. The functionalistic style building was designed by architect Dag Englund and it is maybe the best preserved airport of its time and style in the world.
