In late August and early September the Battle of Britain was fought for control of the skies to enable the German invasion of England. At this time the history of England and Europe was certainly at the crossroads and the struggle is commemorated by a display at The Goodwood Revival meeting held over the 17th-19th September. During WWII Goodwood was active as West Hampnett airfield, a fighter base. The Revival Meeting is principally a motor racing revival of period and historic racing cars but there are also displays of historic aircraft and here the scene is of a WWII dispersal area with Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft and period tents and vehicles. Participants and the audience dress in period, with some going to considerable lengths to achieve the correct look.
