This ceremony takes place each week at the Plaza Independencia (Independence Square), where the remains of General José Artigas are, and consists of two regiments of Foot Guards wearing traditional full-dress uniforms lead by the Guards' band. The music played ranges from traditional military marches to traditional national music. The soldiers march around the square, then proceed to replace the 2 soldiers who guard the remains that are located in the mausoleum below the central horse monument.
