This pano was shot at the performing arts stage at L'Escorxador: Elche Contemporary Cultural Centre.

This recently opened Cultural Centre aims at promoting plastic, sound, visual and performing arts. The Centre is not merely devoted to the exhibition of art but also focuses at supporting and assisting artists into the creation of new projects to be later exhibited in the Centre.

The construction dates from the forties and was originally built as a slaughterhouse. It was used for this purpose until the eighties when slaughterhouses were, by law, force to be moved outside of cities. It was therefore closed and the building remained unused for many years. It was not until recently that this building was eventually restored and reused as a Contemporary Cultural Centre. The newly transformed Centre was finally opened on November 7th, 2008, with the name of L'Escorxador (The Slaughterhouse).

The plot has a total of 5,000 square meters out of which 3,000 are under roof. The building has maintained its original structure and is divided into four separate halls that are used for the different activities:

Hall 1: The theatre space (depicted in this pano) used to host performing, musical and audiovisual shows.

Hall 2: A multi-purpose stage that can accommodate art exhibitions or be used for the rehearsing of performing arts and music.

Hall 3: subdivided into smaller rooms and used for the practising of sound arts.

Hall 4: containing class and seminar rooms, audiovisual facilities and workshops for the support and learning of the different contemporary arts promoted by the Centre (who knows if also panography at some point!).

The last decades have seen the closing of several historical local theatres and it is nice to see, for a change, a Cultural Centre open.

Special thanks to José Carlos and to Alicia García Núñez from CCCE L'Escorxador for showing me the place and providing me with the relevant information to write this caption. More info and the program of activities can be found at http://www.centrelescorxador.com
