The 7 mile long Wissahickon Creek gorge in Nortwest Philadelphia is a reclaimed 19th century industrial zone, much of which now looks a lot like wilderness. It has 30 miles of trails and no cars, and helps sustain the sanity of many of us in the the neighborhoods that border it -- Andorra, Chestnut Hill, Ivy Ridge, Mount Airy, Roxborough, Germantown.
This QTVR shows the creek below the Walnut Lane Bridge, which is said to have briefly been the tallest and most expensive concrete bridge in the world.
Like all natural things, the Wissahickon is now suffering serious degradation due to the relentless pressure of human "needs".
