Energy comes in many different forms. Obviously one can see a Data Center as a large consumer of energy - it requires great amounts of electricity to power the equipment. The equipment in turn generates large amounts of thermal energy, which needs to be displaced by a complex air-conditioning system.

However - this just scratches the surface.

This room represents the creative energy of hundreds of students, who have stored their assignments, projects and homework on these servers. The academic's research covering many years of learning and new knowledge. All of this is harvested and refined in electronic form of 1s and 0s - stored on the computer systems and data carriers. The System Administrators looking after this room have undoubtedly spent countless hours of their time and energy maintaining a good functional environment. The hardware and software enginner's whose products are running here - all their creative energy has crystalized here as well.

So you can see, there is a lot more to it than just one form of energy...
