Brown coal power plants are heat systems which work with steam and turbines: The hotter the steam comes into the turbine and the more cold it leaves, the more energy output you have.

In Bergheim-Niederaussem, near Cologne, this technology was perfected: burned coal dust boils water up to 580 degrees celsius. The giant turbine blades turn with 3.000 revolutions and are connected with a current generator. The largest cooling tower in the world provides for the appropriate cooling. The system could supply each fourth inhabitant of North Rhine-Westphalia with current.
