The Cobweb Bridge near Sheffield City Centre fitted the WWP brief perfectly - a bridge under a bridge.
It is an example of some clever engineering and its unique design makes it very photogenic.
The Cobweb Bridge was the solution to a difficult design problem - how to create a riverside cycle-walkway under the massive viaduct which spans the width of the River Don, and at the same time link one bank of the river to the other.
Designed by Sheffield City Council's Structures Section, their solution was to hang the entire 100 metres long bridge on a web of steel cables secured to the underside of the Viaduct, hence the name.
If you are scared of spiders, don't look up...!
