My stroll down memory lane was prompted because I used to live less than a kilometre from here and it was one of my two direct routes into the busy town centre. The other is a gentle 10-minute stroll along the picturesque seafront where I could look down into the crystal-clear waters to see the many fish swimming a metre or so below me or watch local children playing volleyball in the refreshing sea on a hot and sunny day.

This street sits in the Old Turkish quarter of Larnaca, created before the Island was split in 1974. The street names are all still Turkish, but many of the houses have been uninhabited for some years. The design of the houses indicates a variety of different styles influenced by the varied nationalities that have populated the island through the years.

No more than 100 metres from the opening view is the bustling Finikoudes Promenade and Blue flagged beach which is lined with palm trees, behind which sits the busy main shopping area of the town.

This island really is one of contrast :-)
