Lefkara is part of a very old village located on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains. Archaeological remains found in the village are proof that the region around Lefkara has been inhabited uninterruptedly for many centuries.

Most of the houses conserved today in the village date from the late 19th Century. They are restored using the traditional Lefkara limestone which has withstood the "ravages of time."

This pano was taken in Kato (lower) Lefkara, which has a population of around 200. Here we can see derelict houses alongside newly restored dwellings, together with one of the five churches I have found in the lower village.

Pano (upper) Lefkara sits 200/300 meters higher up the mountain.

Both Pano and Kato Lefkara carry on the tradition of lace making, one of the best known handicrafts on the island. Lefkara Lace, also know as the Lefkaritika, the embroidery crafting which has been preserved through the centuries from generation to generation, being passed on from mother to daughter.
