At 1493 m the Feldberg is the highest elevation in the Black Forest. This panorama features a view from an adjacent mountain – the Hochfahrn – towards the north-western face of the Feldberg. In the Black Forest the tree line is at around 1400m and there are only 4 mountains that exceed this altitude. You can easily recognize them by their "bald heads".
The large building to the left of the Feldberg is called the "Erlenbacher Hütte" (www.erlenbacher-huette.de), formerly a farm, nowadays an inn for outings, where you can get both the famous Black Forest ham and gateau.
The valley in front of the Feldberg is the St. Willhelmer Tal. The building on the glade to the right of the Feldberg is another inn. Now guess, what the speciality there is?
The audio recording has been taken on the very spot in digital quality. What at first hearing sounds like white noise, is indeed the humming of a huge number of bees, flies, wasps, beetles, etc.. So this mountain meadow is well laid out table for the birds you also hear on the recording.
