Thunder Bay recently received a flurry of national attention with the recent CBC's "Seven Wonders of Canada" online voting event. The Sleeping Giant, a natural rock formation that looks like a giant human figure laying on its back, came out as the number one "People's Choice" selection in the Seven Wonders event. It is visible in this panorama surrounded by fog and rain clouds (or you can see my 2005 "Best Of" submission). Our community siezed upon this chance with a vigour not seen in Thunder Bay for many years - it was a chance for us to promote a community often overlooked by the decision makers 1,500 KMs away. I am proud to be a citizen of this fine community, located on a freshwater lake so large, it is often compared with the inland seas of Europe. Winning the "People's Choice" category and generating renewed tourist interest in our community was certainly a high point this year.
