Ingemar Bergmark: Ferrytale Behind the scenes: Dealing with a corrupt Compact Flash card After taking this panorama I had high hopes for it. I liked the close proximity to the seagulls and there were quite a few people on the deck as well (in the original, that is)... After coming back home I started to copy the files from the memory card. Three files into the copying process the status indicator just froze. Just a temporary glitch was my first (hopeful) reaction. Alas, my worst fear had been realized....a corrupt file! I managed to salvage part of the corrupt file, but a huge chunk (about 40%) was missing. [See here] The most frustrating part was that it turned out to be the actual card that was corrupt, not just the file-system. At first I thought this panorama was a goner, but after a good nights sleep I decided to use what I had and to rebuild the missing part. It wasn't easy. I've never Photoshoped like this on a panorama before, but the end result was very pleasing. OK, I agree that it's not exactly what the original scene looks like, but better a panorama than no panorama, right? Time to buy a new memory card... :-D Return |
