Exposition Park, originally named Agricultural Park, was developed in 1876 as a show ground for agricultural and horticultural fairs. It became state land in 1880 but due to corruption fell into private hands during the 1890's. The site was redeveloped in 1910 as Exposition Park and the 7.5 acre rose gardens were planed in 1926 and completed in 1928. 15,793 rose bushes were planted and in full bloom for the opening ceremonies. Today the site is adjacent to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum and the California Science Center just across Exposition Blvd. from the University of Southern California. In 1989 the Rose Gardens almost became a parking lot but due to the efforts of Helen Fredin of the Greater Los Angeles Rose Council the gardens were saved from the bulldozer.

The building in the opening view is the Natural History Museum and the buildings around the rest of the garden are the Science Center buildings. The Natural History Museum is a popular location for TV Commercials and TV series due to it's unique architecture. During most of the year it's a quiet place for reading and reflection in the very fast paced city of Los Angeles.
