Newby Hall is located in North Yorkshire two miles South East of Ripon. It was built by Sir Edward Blackett, a Member of Parliament for Ripon in 1690. The house and gardens are now the home of the Compton family who supervise the upkeep of the house and gardens.

The vast garden contains many separate garden areas all with their own character, from the grand herbaceous borders running straight from the house down to the River Ure, to the winding paths of the Rock Garden.

The panorama was taken next to the lily pond in the gardens to the south of the hall. The ‘Wood Nymph’, a statue by David Williams-Ellis stands gracefully on a plinth in the middle of the pond. Waterlilies surround the statue and if you look closely you might spot a goldfish swimming beneath the leaves.
