Having lived in this house for 6 years now I thought that it was time, for historic reasons, to record another panorama of my back garden. Only 2 years ago the back garden was 100% grass but now it starting to become a place of utility and beauty.

There are toys for the kids, grass areas to play and rest on, borders containing a variety of flowers, shrubs and other plants and, the most recent addition, a greenhouse to start growing plants and vegetables.

In the eastern part of the garden, and the greenhouse, we are growing potatoes, onions, garlic, sweetcorn, courgettes, pumpkins, broccoli, beans, peas, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. Next year we hope to add to that list.

The Isle of Man is a very northern location and around this time of year it doesn't get dark until around 11:30pm and it gets light again just after 4:00am. Thankfully, we have had some sunny days this spring. All year round the island never gets very cold or very hot and in the middle of summer we can expect our fair share of rain and strong winds in addition to 'some' fair sunny weather. The four days prior to this picture had all been wet.

The island is also cooled by the sea breeze and now having the greenhouse I have managed to grow some plants for the first time that would not have grown well if planted directly outside.
